Series evaluation of Tweedie exponential dispersion model densities
نویسندگان
چکیده
Exponential dispersion models, which are linear exponential families with a dispersion parameter, are the prototype response distributions for generalized linear models. The Tweedie families are those exponential dispersion models with power mean-variance relationships. The normal, Poisson, gamma and inverse Gaussian distributions are Tweedie families. Apart from these special cases, Tweedie distributions do not have density functions which can be written in closed form. Instead, the densities can be represented as infinite summations derived from series expansions. This article describes how the series expansions can be summed in an numerically efficient fashion. The usefulness of the approach is demonstrated, but full machine accuracy is shown not to be obtainable using the series expansion method for all parameter values. Derivatives of the density with respect to the dispersion parameter are also derived to facilitate maximum likelihood estimation. The methods are demonstrated on two data examples and compared with with Box-Cox transformations and extended quasi-likelihoood. ∗This is the final preprint version of the article published in Statistics and Computing, Volume 15 (2005), pages 267–280.

متن کاملEvaluation of Tweedie exponential dispersion model densities by Fourier inversion
The Tweedie family of distributions is a family of exponential dispersion models with power variance functions V (μ) = μp for p 6∈ (0, 1). These distributions do not generally have density functions that can be written in closed form. However, they have simple moment generating functions, so the densities can be evaluated numerically by Fourier inversion of the characteristic functions. This pa...
متن کاملAlpha/Beta Divergences and Tweedie Models
We describe the underlying probabilistic interpretation of alpha and beta divergences. We first show that beta divergences are inherently tied to Tweedie distributions, a particular type of exponential family, known as exponential dispersion models. Starting from the variance function of a Tweedie model, we outline how to get alpha and beta divergences as special cases of Csiszár’s f and Bregma...

This class of non-negative integer-valued ...
متن کاملLearning the beta-Divergence in Tweedie Compound Poisson Matrix Factorization Models
In this study, we derive algorithms for estimating mixed β-divergences. Such cost functions are useful for Nonnegative Matrix and Tensor Factorization models with a compound Poisson observation model. Compound Poisson is a particular Tweedie model, an important special case of exponential dispersion models characterized by the fact that the variance is proportional to a power function of the me...
